Appealing to property owners to think more about light pollution, runoff, and poorly maintained septic systems will be a centerpiece discussion at the June 13 membership meeting, which will be at the Isola Bella pavilion at 10 a.m. We urge members to mark their calendar. Simple steps to protect the ecosystem taken by enough people can make a big difference.
Also on the agenda: updates on lake management, a new weed harvesting initiative on West Twin, lake patrols, and the Twin Lakes Association budget including discussion of a lake-protection endowment.
Recent water quality surveys confirm that the lakes remain clear and healthy. But they also show red flags regarding unwanted nutrient flows into the lakes. These nutrients may be coming from vast parts of the watershed, as well as from the shoreline.
The TLA has 50 copies of Nature’s Action Guide, a $30 value available at the meeting for $20. The guide is also available on Amazon.com. It offers 15 accessible measures for property owners to protect the water. The table of contents is pictured nearby.
Madeline Watts, an invasive plant expert from the Connecticut Agriculture Research Station, will be on hand to elaborate and give an overview of invasive plants on Twin Lakes, and on how to identify them.
Reminder: TLA membership dues should be paid before the June 13 meeting. Dues are $50 per person. Dues are important but account for less than 5% of the annual TLA budget, now at $500,000. Your continued support through donations is essential for the battle against invasive species and other work to keep the lakes healthy.
Celebrate July 4 this year in grand fashion by joining a water parade to note our nation’s 250th Independence Day. The TLA asks all interested lake goers with a power boat to meet at 2:45 p.m. on July 4 at the east cove of East Twin Lake, on the water in front of the state boat launch.
The parade will begin at 3 p.m., traveling at low speed counterclockwise around the tip of the island and continuing around the lake for a full lap. We encourage you to wear red, white, and blue and display/wave an American flag. We expect to finish at 4:15 p.m. There is no rain date.
All boaters are required to have an Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) stamp for 2026. You can get one at the Online Sportsmen Licensing system.
Printed TLA directories with the latest member information will be distributed at the June 13 meeting.
